AMELIA BURKE
Director & Theatre Maker
Amelia is a director and theatre maker with a passion for creating and directing new Australian work. She is currently the Artistic Director of the Western Australian Youth Theatre Company (WAYTCo).
Amelia's new work highlights include directing Frieda Lee's darkly comedic play All His Beloved Children at Kings Cross Theatre on Broadway, for which she was nominated for Best Direction (Independent Production) at the Sydney Theatre Awards. In 2023, she also directed Maki Morita's punk inspired Trash Pop Butterflies, Dance Dance Paradise for Theatre Works. In Perth, Amelia co-created and directed coming-of-age romp Cookies and Cream, which also toured to Adelaide Fringe. Finally, she co-created Miss Westralia, an original musical about the first Miss Australia, which had a sell-out independent season and a professional tour of regional WA in 2021.
Amelia loves fusing her love of performance with her passion for making work with young people. She has had the pleasure of working as a teaching artist and director across the country with WAYTCo, National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), Filmbites Screen Academy and Super Speak. In 2022, she directed and co-wrote Meet My Grandies alongside a young cast for La Mama & the Victorian Seniors Festival.
Amelia holds a BPA in Performance Making from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and an MFA in Directing from NIDA.
